O.A.K. Services owner Charles Rice is a 14-year ISA Certified Arborist with specialized Oak Wilt disease expertise — a regional focus most tree companies in the Aiken, SC area simply don’t carry. These FAQs cover the questions we hear most often about Oak Wilt symptoms, how the disease spreads, what treatment looks like, and how to protect healthy trees nearby. For questions about a specific tree on your property, a TRAQ-qualified assessment is the right starting point.

WHAT WE BRING TO EVERY JOB

O.A.K. Services has operated out of the same Aiken, SC headquarters at 3039 Charleston Hwy since 2005 — 21 years serving the CSRA. The company holds TCIA Accreditation (top 2% of all tree companies nationally, since 2016), and owner Charles Rice carries the ISA Certified Arborist credential himself — it’s not delegated to a hired employee. For Oak Wilt work specifically, that means the credentialed arborist diagnosing your trees is the same person running the operation, not someone downstream in the chain.

DIAGNOSTIC APPROACH

Beyond standard tree removal, OAK takes on the difficult work others pass on: hazard tree assessments, structural cabling, large-diameter takedowns, and crane-required removals near homes and utilities. Every project gets the same Certified Arborist oversight.

TREATMENT & MONITORING

Because Oak Wilt can move through interconnected root systems, timing and follow-through matter. Charles Rice’s 26-year Green Industry background and ISA TRAQ qualification inform how O.A.K. assesses infection status, evaluates spread risk to adjacent oaks, and monitors treated trees over time. O.A.K. is fully licensed and insured — Commercial Auto, General Liability, and Worker’s Comp — and holds a BBB A+ rating. Call (803) 443-4080 to schedule an on-site evaluation in Aiken or surrounding communities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Our Services

How does Oak Wilt spread between trees in Aiken, SC?

Oak Wilt spreads two ways: through root grafts between nearby oaks, and via sap beetles that carry fungal spores to fresh wounds. Red oaks are especially vulnerable and can die within weeks of infection. Because the fungus moves through connected root systems, a single infected tree can silently spread the disease to neighboring oaks before symptoms appear.

Treatment depends on the oak species and how far the disease has progressed. White oaks are generally more responsive to fungicide injection than red oaks. Early diagnosis is critical — that’s why O.A.K. Services uses TRAQ-qualified assessments to evaluate each tree individually. Some infections can be managed; others require removal and root barrier installation to stop underground spread to adjacent trees.

Oak Wilt symptoms can look similar to drought stress, root damage, or other fungal diseases. Key signs include rapid leaf wilt starting at the crown, leaves browning from the outer edges inward, and premature leaf drop — often mid-growing season. Definitive diagnosis requires lab analysis. Charles Rice, O.A.K.’s ISA Certified Arborist, can perform a TRAQ-qualified site assessment to distinguish Oak Wilt from other conditions before recommending any treatment.
